Introducing Our New Home – Great Western Beach, Newquay!

So we’ve got some big news for you guys… We’ve moved to an exciting new location in Newquay – Great Western beach! It’s only been a few weeks since we moved here but we are already loving it. And with direct access to the surf, quieter waves and a groovy beach bar for some seriously tasty après-surf fare, we know you’re going to love it as much as we do!

Quiet and sheltered from the wind, we love it!

We couldn’t be more stoked to call this beautiful beach our new home. Nestled between Towan and Tolcarne beaches in Newquay bay, not only is Great Western more sheltered than our previous base at Fistral – with cliffs on either side of the beach offering protection when the wind picks up – it’s also a lot quieter. It honestly feels like having our own private beach, since it’s just us and one other surf school who exclusively operate down here. There’s even more privacy when the tide comes up, when access from the neighbouring beaches is cut off and the only way down is by the slope that leads from Cliff Road. So what does this mean for you guys? Less people in the water, more space on the beach and more waves for the taking!

Our new HQ has the best view in Newquay!

With our base being just a few footsteps from the sand, there’ll be no more trekking down to Fistral with a dead arm from carrying your board. We’ll be running all of our events from the super-chill Great Western Surf Cafe, a beachside hangout that has all your post-surf cravings covered. It’s got cosy beach vibes, funky surf tunes (that’ll you’ll no doubt be Shazam-ing and adding to your ‘Get Stoked!’ playlist) as well as prime wave-watching location (seriously, good luck with ungluing your eyeballs from that view).

You’re going to love our vegan chef…

And the food – don’t even get us started on the food. Never mind the Insta-worthy presentation or the mouth-watering colours – this is classic California-inspired flavour that packs a punch. Think piled-high plates of nachos, homemade falafel burgers, nourishing Buddha bowls and panko breaded avocado tacos (our personal fave). There’s plenty of veggie, vegan-friendly and gluten-free options to choose from, too.

After Surf Aperitifs!

Mosey on down to their Surf Shack afterwards for G&Ts and locally-brewed pints in their toes-in-the-sand beer garden, with the waves crashing right in front of you. A lush spot to catch the sunset after a day in the water!

We’re so excited to share this vision with the amazing crew at the Great Western Surf Cafe – and even more excited to share it with you! We’ve got so many epic events planned for this year, and this is the perfect base for them all.

So, whether you’re looking to seriously step up your surfing game at our Rip Curl Surf Academy, or you simply want to immerse yourself in the beauty of Cornwall during one of our Saltwater Experiences, you’ve come to the right place. It all happens here in the surf capital of the UK. Many don’t realise that Great Western is the beach where surfing in Newquay began, where you’re guaranteed ocean-filled days with like-minded women, good vibes and shakas all round!
