How long have you been surfing and how did you start?
My love for the ocean started really young. By the time I was five or six, I was already catching waves on my boogie board and standing up all the way to shore. I officially started surfing at age 10, after discovering my dadโs fluorescent pink Flying Fish quad surfboard tucked away in the garage. From the moment I paddled out, I was hooked โ and my seven years of ballet quickly took a back seat to surfing.
When I was 12, I entered my first competition in the Under-12 division of a local inter-school championship and ended up taking first place. Thatโs when my passion for competitive surfing really began, and I started traveling abroad to challenge myself and gain international experience.
At 14, I won my first international contest, the Rip Curl GromSearch in New Smyrna, Florida. From there, I became a regular on the podium at nearly every event I entered. My 2010 season was especially memorable โ I had 27 podium finishes, including 19 wins, 6 second-place finishes, and 2 thirds.
I have been surfing for over 20 years, Iโve competed in more than 200 surf contests around the world, earning over 100 wins and claiming more than 50 titles both in Barbados and internationally.
Best competition result-
One of my proudest competition moments was winning the APSPR Corona Pro at Domes Beach in Puerto Rico. It was one of the very first contests I ever competed in that offered equal prize money for men and women, this made the victory even more meaningful. Taking home the win and a beautiful trophy was such a special moment in my career and a reminder of how far womenโs surfing has come.
Why do you love Costa Rica?-
I love Costa Rica because thereโs something truly magical about it. The waves are some of the most perfect Iโve ever surfed โ consistent, warm, and ideal for both professional training and for beginners catching their very first waves. Iโve been traveling there for over ten years to train and even won a competition there, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. The people of Costa Rica are some of the kindest and most welcoming youโll ever meet, which makes every trip unforgettable. I also love the vibrant nature, the fresh food, and the โpura vidaโ way of life that reminds you to slow down and appreciate every moment.
Why do you love Barbados?-
I love Barbados, my family has lived here for generations, and the island has shaped who I am as a person and as a surfer. I grew up on the beach, falling in love with the ocean and training in some of the most beautiful waves in the Caribbean. Some of my favorite things about Barbados are the warm-hearted people, the delicious food, and the chance to enjoy the islandโs natural beauty every day. Barbados has such a special energy โ with warm turquoise water, perfect waves for every level, and sunshine almost every day of the year. No matter where I travel, thereโs nothing quite like coming home to Barbados.
What qualifications do I have?
I am an ISA Level 2 Surf Coach with an International Lifesaving Accreditation and an ISA Level 1 Judge qualification. Beyond my surfing credentials, I am also a qualified Montessori Teacher and hold a degree in Marketing, combining my passion for education, coaching, and creativity.
Why do you love running Women & Waves Trips?
I love running Women & Waves trips because they allow me to share my love for surfing while meeting incredible women from all walks of life and hearing their stories. Seeing how the women progress and being part of their surfing journey is something I hold very close to my heart. These trips have also given me a newfound love for surfing, reminding me why I fell in love with the ocean in the first place. Some of the women Iโve met on these trips have become some of my closest friends, which makes every experience even more special. I love watching them gain confidence in the water, challenge themselves, and connect with the ocean and nature. Every trip is full of laughter, growth, and unforgettable memories, and being part of that journey is truly inspiring.
