BOARD BAG (OPTIONAL)
A decent board bag will protect your kit and store bulky things like your wetsuit, boots and a towel..
BOARD SOCK (OPTIONAL)
A cheaper option than a board bag, it’ll protect your board from the sun and double up as a board towel. They don’t offer as much protection as a bag.
WETSUIT BOOTS
Keep your toes toasty between November and April with some well fitting neoprene boots. We can supply if you don’t have your own.
GLOVES
Keep your digits warm when the water gets chilly from mid January to the end of March. We can supply if you don’t have your own.
HOOD
Only required in the depths of winter, especially if you regularly duck dive or fancy some extra warmth. We can supply if you don’t have your own.
SUN PROTECTION
This is essential in the summer and even on colder days – the sun’s rays still penetrate through the clouds and reflect off the water’s surface.
Make sure you wear waterproof sunscreen. Zinc based sticks are a good option and won’t run into your eyes.
CLOTHING
Bring warm clothing suitable for all weathers – it’s not uncommon to get four seasons in one day in the south west of England. Layers are the best option and a woolly hat is ideal for warming up after a cold surf.
AREA
The Gower became the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1956 and it’s easy to see why. Expect gold sand beaches, dramatic cliffs, wild moors, sheltered woodland and gorgeous views all around.
While many people bypass South Wales for the allure of the South West, the Gower has a surprising amount of waves. There are beaches and reef breaks that face different directions, so you can usually find a sheltered spot even when it’s stormy.
The Gower is often overlooked, but it’s a great little nugget – and it’s the heartland of the Welsh surf scene. So if you’re looking for quieter waves with plenty of space to surf yourself silly, this is the spot for you.
WAVES
Stretching for 19 miles, the Gower Peninsula has a huge variety of surf breaks along its coastline, ranging from A-frame peaks to peeling cruisers.
LLANGENNITH
Located on the west coast at Rhossili Bay, Llangennith is constantly voted one of the most beautiful beaches in Britain.
Fun waves roll in all along this three-mile stretch of gold sand beach, making it popular with all types of surfers from complete beginners to pros.
The waves at the south end of the beach are a little smaller than at the north end. It’s also sheltered from any southerly winds.
THREE PEAKS
At the north end of Llangennith, the waves at Three Peaks usually have more power and size. They offer long peeling walls – perfect for practising takeoffs, bottom turns and cutbacks.
Llangennith offers something for everybody, and the best thing is there’s always room in the water!
CLIMATE
The Gower is a short distance from Devon’s north coast, so it benefits from similar good annual sea temperatures, warm summers, mild winters and excellent swell exposure.
Whatever the season, Llangennith is hugely reliable. It’s a perfect beach to learn to surf, progress your surfing and build your skills and confidence.
As for the weather…it’s Wales! We recommend packing both sunscreen and a warm, lightweight, waterproof jacket to cover all bases.
Always dreamed of riding waves but never taken the plunge? Or maybe you’ve had a couple of lessons but still struggling to get to your feet? Whether you’re completely new to surfing or you’re still winging it in the whitewash, this immersive two-day surf programme will equip you with the tools, techniques and confidence to kickstart your surfing journey.
The Progressor Surfer Programme will teach you how to confidently paddle out back and catch green waves (and how to select the best ones). How to deal with steep take-offs and the skills required to make a drop. Where to sit in the lineup and why. Which wave to pick from a set and how to handle crowded days. How to read forecasts, learn about winds, tides, swell direction and how it will affect your session. Dealing with changing ocean conditions and successfully managing rips. How to gain speed and read sections of a wave to lengthen your rides. Plus, you’ll fine-tune your paddle techniques and perfect your pop-up.
On the two-day Intermediate Surfer Programme, you’ll be taking a deep dive into the technical side of surfing. Think bottom and top turns, trimming and pumping, carves and cutbacks, angled and steeper take-offs, generating speed from your bottom turn and catching bigger waves… There’s a lot to cover on this one, so come prepared to seriously level up your surfing!
This course is for you if you can consistently catch broken waves and are now looking to progress to the next level – paddling outback and catching unbroken waves. It’s all about improving your confidence in and out of the water through ocean awareness, wave selection and paddle and pop up techniques. You need to be comfortable with going beyond the whitewater and out of your depth to the lineup.

A highlight of the weekend is Saturday evening. After a day in the sea we have earned some tasty, locally sourced food and Cornwall is the home to some delicious dishes. We work with our favourite local beach side restaurants to create a chilled evening that takes in scrummy food and drink. It’s entirely optional but it’s a great opportunity to let your hair down, make new friends and relax after a great day’s surfing. All dietary requirements are catered for.
Depending on the tides and schedule we often meet for breakfast coffee and enjoy a varied menu of options before the day begins. Again this is optional but our coastal café meet up offers stunning views. There is no better way to check the waves than with a coffee in hand chatting with your fellow surf girls.
For lunch, please bring a pack up with you for both days so that we can make the most of the waves and keep lunch times flexible around the tides.
Please bring a reusable water bottle and mug.
