Itinerary
Please note, sometimes we need to be flexible as some activities will be weather and condition dependent – but don’t worry, we’ll always do our very best to ensure you get the very best out of the trip! All our surf days and suggested activities are completely optional – you can enjoy as much or as little as you desire. This is not a boot camp!
Day 1
Touch down in Bali! You’re about to spend ten days totally absorbed in surf culture, riding world-class waves and hanging with a group of incredible like-minded women. With sunshine, culture, incredible food and beautiful island vibes all thrown into the mix… we hope you’re ready for the adventure!
At international arrivals, we’ll pick you up and transfer you to our stop-over hotel in Sanur on Bali’s east coast for one night. There will be time to freshen up before the official welcome dinner on the beachfront – it’s a chilled evening, a chance to meet the other women on the trip and share the stoke for the days ahead.
Day 2
We’ll leave the buzz of Bali behind and take a ferry over to the island paradise that is Nusa Lembongan. We’ll drop off your bags at the hotel before heading to meet your surf coaches for the week, share your surf goals and select your surfboards! Shake off the travel legs with some surf-focused dynamic stretches before boarding the boat that takes us straight to the surf spot (no paddle-out needed!) and then dive into the crystal-clear waters for your first session. In the afternoon, we’ll show you to your private bungalows and give you some time to settle in. Afterwards, we’ll play back the videos captured by our camera team and discuss your surf goals for the following day. We’ll also share key knowledge on surf etiquette and ocean awareness that will help you feel comfortable in the lineup for your second surf session.
Day 3
Today your surf coaching continues with a morning pool workshop focusing on turtle rolls, paddling technique and duck diving. This will help you navigate the sets and get into position to catch the best waves for you. In the afternoon, put your new skills to the test and go for a surf. Back at our hotel, you’ll get to watch the footage filmed by our team in a second video analysis session over some well-earned lunch. You’ll also test out a sport that is taking the surf community by storm – surfskating. In the first of three surfskate sessions offered during this trip, try out this form of skateboarding that mimics the movements and feel of surfing. Surfskating is an invaluable tool you can practise on land to develop the dynamic body movements you need on the water.
Day 4
The day begins with a relaxing morning, enjoy the inclusive breakfast, a coffee while looking at the waves and discussing a new set of goals to focus on. After lunch, on the perfect tide, you’ll head out on the boats for another surf. You’ll learn how to choose the best waves possible and we’ll give you a push if needed! After video analysis, you’ll learn about wave reading and speed generation skills in a workshop aimed at helping you independently select your own waves and then be up and riding for as long as possible!
Day 5
Today is a rest day from surfing. Instead, you’re about to discover some of the most epic snorkel spots in the area and turn your attention to the beauty and magic that lies beneath the waves. Nusa Lembongan is a world-class snorkeling and scuba diving site and you’ll have the opportunity to spot manta rays, turtles, coral gardens and thousands of tropical fish.
Day 6
In the cooler morning temperatures, you can join a second surfskate workshop. This super fun, practical session will link all the theory you’ve already covered to the physical movements of the body that are required to generate speed, navigate through turns and maintain your balance when riding a surfskate and/or surfboard. In the afternoon, you’ll hit the water to put it into practice in your filmed surf session.
Day 7
You guessed it – more surfing today! Afterwards, we’ll review your videos and take a look at the forecast for the rest of the week together. Ask us any questions you have about the best forecasting apps to use and how to read the data – those numbers and charts can be confusing! Later on, ease your muscles with a post-surf stretch session. Grab a taxi to your stretch session spot (don’t forget your towel!) and enjoy a sunset walk back home along the beach, with the option of stopping in at a local restaurant for dinner.
Day 8
Today kicks off with your third surfskate workshop. With a focus on turns, you’ll practise toe and heel control, opening your shoulders and using your arms to draw clean lines through your turns. This will increase your balance, strengthen your muscle memory and increase your rate of progression on a surfboard. You’ll then have the afternoon free to do some shopping, check out some cafés or just chill around the pool. Then as the sun starts to cool off, we’ll head out into the water for a dreamy sunset session together.
Day 9
Today is your chance to explore! It’s a free day to discover more of the island and tick off any extra activities on your Indo bucket list. Perhaps a diving course or a paddleboard tour of the mangroves takes your fancy. Another option is to walk or take a scooter across the yellow bridge to the neighbouring island Nusa Cinigan. You could also hop over to Nusa Penida, an island that’s still largely untouched by tourism – go and enjoy its quiet coves, Angel’s Billabong rock formation and slow rhythm of life. Lembongan is a tropical playground to explore – you can hire a bike, take a hike or simply spend the day hanging out at its lounge bars and beach clubs.
Day 10
Your last full day in Nusa Lembongan will involve a final surf with video analysis. It’s your last filmed session – so let loose, bring your best moves and, most importantly, have fun! You’ll get to watch and analyse your moves later – get ready to praise and applaud those final rides! You can also get any final burning questions answered in a Q&A session. In the evening, we’ll celebrate an incredible trip together, grab a drink and watch the sun as it sets on your last night in Indonesia.
Day 11
All too soon, it’s time to say goodbye to Nusa Lembongan (for now!) and fly home. We’ll get the ferry together and make sure we get you to the airport in good time for your flight. Please see our Travel section for more information.

Not sure what surfing level you are? Take our quiz.
Seeing yourself surf is a fantastic way to improve your performance. Every day you’ll watch a move-by-move breakdown of your surfing with footage both from the air and in the water.
You’ll get to take a photo and video package home with you at the end of the week too, which is a helpful tool for your on-going progress and an epic memento of your trip.
Three surf skating sessions are included in the trip (all safety kit and surf skateboards are supplied). Courtenay, our trip leader, delivers this in a super fun session – you’re guaranteed to be skating by the end of it! You’ll practise a series of drills including toe and heel control, opening your shoulders and using your arms to draw clean lines through your turns. These workshops will increase your time spent on a board simulating these manoeuvres. The result? Increased balance, strengthened muscle memory and increased rate of progression on a surfboard.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to food during this trip. Whether you’re after a chilled-out beach bar vibe or prefer to splash out on fine dining with an epic sea view, Nusa Lembongan delivers above and beyond. Some of the world’s best chefs have set up shop here, so expect some truly incredible international cuisine alongside traditional Indonesian fare.
A delicious and healthy breakfast is served each morning on the decking overlooking the surf breaks. Think eggs how you like them, Balinese coffee, fresh fruit and local red rice porridge. This is included in the price.
Eating out and experiencing the local food culture is one of the trip’s many highlights. Alfresco restaurants take full advantage of the views, so you’ll have idyllic choices at every turn. For instance, just a short stroll from your accommodation, Onaha’s has an Ibiza beach club feel – think daybeds, fire pits and jazz music, the perfect backdrop to a sundowner by the sea (see more on our favourite places to eat below).
There’s also a wide array of fine dining options on the island. For a fancier night out, you can book an open-air taxi to whisk you off to somewhere like Sandy Bay Beach Club, a restaurant with sublime sunsets, world-class Western cuisine and a near-private beach setting with a Balearic buzz. Or for more of a Maldives feel, head for The Deck. With pristine ocean views, it serves carefully crafted cocktails and everything from fresh poke bowls to pizza.
Of course, Indonesia is also where you can pick up delicious local meals for a couple of quid. The price increases in the more westernised restaurants, but you’ll still find your money stretching much further into the evening. Being a small island, restaurants and locals rely heavily on what the ocean has to offer – so if you like seafood, you won’t want to miss out on this part of the trip!
Much like the rest of Southeast Asia, Nusa Lembonga has a unique food and home cooking scene. Many young people eat from street vendors and local restaurants, bringing a real communal feel into the area and a fantastic atmosphere after dusk. You’ll find many warungs (local family-owned restaurants), cafes and bars offering local dishes, like nasi goreng (fried rice) and mie goreng (fried noodles).
With so many epic spots for lunch, brunch, dinner and coffee, we asked our team to recommend some of the tried and tested spots they’ve discovered been wowed by. Here are some of the best:
- The Deck. Stunning white-washed restaurant with driftwood canopy overlooking the ocean. Slightly more expensive than other restaurants but the view alone is worth it. Great place to have evening drinks and look out across the bay watching the remaining bodyboarders and surfers.
- Ohana’s. This is a pretty luxurious spot for sunset drinks and nibbles. It has awesome music and offers the perfect vibe for kicking back and enjoying what this tropical paradise has to offer.
- Eco Deli Bali. Environmentally conscious restaurant in a peaceful setting near Jungutbatu beach. Epic banana bread, fresh salads and free high-speed Wi-Fi. Take your reusable water bottles for free water refills and help save the planet.
- Ginger & Jamu. Fresh, healthy and organic local ingredients transformed into colourful sustenance. Halloumi burgers, vegan tacos and fresh Mahi Mahi are just some of the delicious options available at this beachside holiday-vibe restaurant. Unwind even more and make use of the yoga studio upstairs with breathtaking views of the ocean.
- Lemon Grass Bar & Restaurant. Delicate scents of carefully crafted Indonesian specialities waft out onto the street and entice you in. It is a perfect place to enjoy a good quality dinner with a lovely ambiance.
- Dream Beach. This is a secluded and pristine spot, and somewhere that we will certainly show you during the trip. You’ll gaze out at the stunning view and pinch yourself, it seems too perfect to be true.

Remember to check the baggage size and weight allowance with your airline. Read their guidance for carrying surfboards. Baggage handlers can be unforgiving so you need a tough travel bag and pack it well.
Firstly, pack your board(s) in a protective, padded board bag, and write FRAGILE and TOP LOAD ONLY on it with the largest, most permanent marker you can find. Make sure you wrap your towel and clothes around your board inside the bag for added protection.
Place your shampoo and other wet toiletries in a separate sealed bag in case of leakage. We also recommend locking your bag zips with a padlock.

As with any holiday, full travel insurance is a requirement for all guests booking a trip with the company.
Please also ensure that your policy covers you for ‘disruption to travel’ and ‘cover for cancellations’ as standard.
For further help please read our helpful blog post about travel insurance.
You may need to add additional cover for surfing, it is essential that your insurance policy covers you for all activities during your stay. Failure to take out travel insurance breaks the contract between Women + Waves and the client.
If you are joining one of our trips and you are native to the country of its location (i.e you live in Lisbon and are joining our Portugal trip) you do not need to take out medical travel insurance. This is as long as you have your own personal health-care plan or are covered by your country’s National Health Service. Although, we kindly request that you still take out trip disruption and cancellation insurance to cover all possible eventualities.
