We loved our Secret Morocco surf camp in May! The consistently warm weather, fun waves and empty beaches go with out saying. But here are three things that you probably didn’t know that made the trip even more special.

Adventures in the Sahara Desert
One of the biggest highlights (apart from the incredible waves) was our Sahara Desert adventure. On our day off from surfing, some of the guests unwound on the beach, book in hand, soaking up the sun and the soothing hush of the ocean. The rest of us? We craved adventure. We piled into jeeps and set off south, ready to see where the road would take us.
Bucket List Sahara Experience
The landscape was unreal; wild, raw, and full of unexpected beauty. Rolling hills gave way to sweeping beaches and hidden coves. We wandered beneath ancient stone archways, cruised down rugged tracks with reggae Adele blasting (who knew that was a thing? New favourite!), and found ourselves in the tiny, windswept ‘fisherman’s village’. This felt like the very end of any kind of civilisation. We walked along the coast enjoying the total solitude. We combed the beautiful shore, creating our own little ‘seashell museums’, pockets full of mermaids’ purses, perfect shells, and smooth stones. With no one around but us. Lunch was a feast, laid on by our Berber hosts on the edge of the Sahara – plates piled high with fresh, delicious local dishes, salty air and sun on our faces.
Refuelled and buzzing, we climbed back in to the vehicles and carried on to Morocco’s southern tip, where the longest beach stretched into forever. We rode on the roof, hair wild in the wind, spotting flamingos and camels as we sang our way down the coast. When the sand began to rise into endless golden dunes, we let the air out of the tyres and bumped our way into the sands of the Sahara. Mountains of sand towered up around us, with nothing to see but blue sky against rolling hills. If you ever need a leg-workout, try trekking up to the top of a saharan sand dune – it’s quite a mission! But the views at the top were just unbelievable.
There’s no way to really capture that feeling in words… So here’s a peek through our photos. It was pure magic and something that we will never forget.

Giving Back to the Community
It’s super important to Women and Waves that we give back to the community and the environment in each of our international trip locations. We travelled to Morocco with a stack of t-shirts from our latest (yet to release!) Women and Waves clothing range to give to the local children. The charity that we connected with to facilitate this is proactive in giving children of all backgrounds the opportunity to surf and experience the ocean. We love to support the cause, and now have a clear idea of the equipment that will be useful to the young surfers in the future so will be carrying spare equipment with us and urging our guests to bring any spare kit to pledge to the new local community of young surfer children!
Just a small way to give back to this corner of the world that give us so much.
