Beyond the Break

Blog

If Kitty was a stick of rock and you snapped her in two, the word running through her core would be POSITIVITY. Hailing from Australia and now living in Cornwall, we love her leading our weekends as she has that rare trait of getting great results while often having the guests in fits of laughter for most of the session. With a great mix of surf coaching skills, teaching yoga and a whole array of extreme hobbies she’s someone that everyone should get to know better. We asked her a few questions to find out more about her. Kitty leads our Newquay and Croyde weekends.

That infectious smile! Kitty in her natural environment.

What’s Lighting You Up Right Now?
Adventuring outdoors, while it’s summer in Cornwall, living and spending as much time outdoors, swimming, surfing and then spending the evening unwinding doing some Yin or Restorative Yoga.

What are music are you listening to right now?
Fame – Reimagined by Ocie Elliot, as an amateur singer, I’m loving the harmonies.

What’s the most intriguing book or article you’re diving into?
Gosh this one is tricky, I read a lot of yoga literature mostly, but I’ve just finished a fiction book called Still Life by Sarah Winman! Stunning!!

Cruising through the shorie, this lady loves her job.

Which podcast has you hooked
I’m really getting into Buddha at the Gas Pump podcast… all of the interviews and episodes are so interesting, and as I love Yoga it’s right up my alley.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve watched this week – a movie, series, or even a viral clip?
When the surf isn’t pumping I’ve been trying some outdoor climbing and really loved watching ’The Alpinist” – it’s WILD and so inspiring!

Which app or gadget are you loving right now?
WSL (World Surf League) – I’m part of the Newquay fantasy league, if you don’t know, you get to pick any of the pro surfers to win each destination and it’s so engaging. I watch all the replays and am, well, obsessed!

A solid Shaka game is an important part of the job!

Where have you surfed this year?
The start of this year I ventured back to Australia, my home country and had some epic surfs at Philip Island and along the Mornington Peninsula. So awesome to surf in the warmer waters again. We’ve had a great surf season so far with some epic days out at Watergate bay, this coming week we jump in the van and take a little surf adventure to the South West coast of Ireland. I’ve surfed Inch beach before and am keen to check out Dingle this time around.

If you join a Women and Waves weekend, score a successful ride to the shore and turn around to look back out to sea. This is what you’ll see!

If you could pack your board and go anywhere, where’s your dream surf destination for 2025?
I’ve always wanted to check out surfing in the Philippines, but I haven’t made it yet. I love surfing in the tropics. Less wetsuit makes for an easy pop-up and paddle-out, and it also encourages you to get in more times in the day. it would be an absolute DREAM!!! If I’m allowed to mention a trip in 2026, I’d love to join the Bali Island Retreat with Women and Waves in April, those waves look stunning! Now that we can fly from Newquay airport (near to where I live) to Faro in Portugal, I’d love to join Women and Waves for our surf trip to Portugal in October. Maybe I’m getting greedy now!

Ready for Your Surf Adventure?
Kitty has infectious positivity, is a great surf coach, motivator  and yoga teacher. If you’d like to spend a weekend with her in Newquay or Croyde there are final places remaining on trips through autumn and beyond.
