The Lockdown Survival Guide For Surfers

The Lockdown Survival Guide For Surfers

As winter draws in and lockdown number two continues, we know now is not the time to get all doom and gloom!
So to help you out, we’ve created the ultimate lockdown survival guide for surfers to keep you entertained all the way up until Christmas! Focusing on all the cool stuff of what we CAN do and not what we can’t do.

1. KEEP SURF FIT

As we all know exercise is the key ingredient to keeping our mind and body happy and healthy.  If you want a home workout routine that you can add to your timetable with little or no equipment then check out the  Nike Training Club app! It’s suitable for everyone and offers interactive videos and workouts for you to do in the comfort of your own home. Personally, we’re loving ‘The Breakthrough’ series which consists of daily workouts + yoga routines to work on to get lean, strong and keep mobile, everything you need to keep surf fit.  Download it here.  If you’re wanting to specifically work on your paddle technique, take a look here at our upper body workout you can do in under 30 minutes.

2. BECOME YOUR OWN MASTERCHEF

Now more than ever is so important to keep your immune system healthy. Take the time to master those recipes. You’ve finally got the time to try that 7-hour stew in a slow cooker, master the orange and cranberry sourdough bread  or try experimenting with different flavours of chutney (this also makes the perfect Christmas gift).  If you fancy an easy bake, try our yummy brownie recipe here.

3. GET YOUR VITAMIN SEA FIX

If you can, try and submerge yourself in some water. It’s crazy how much of a release the ocean can do for the mind. If you can get your daily dip in, then that’s the perfect exercise which will keep you set for the rest of the day. Even if it’s just a quick 2-minute swim! It’s always worth it!

4. BOOST YOUR BREATH HOLD

Master the art of the breath-holding. There are many health benefits of this special breathing method, such as; Stress release, faster recovery from physical exertion, improved sleep, better sports performance, enhanced creativity and more focus and mental clarity. It’s not often we get the chance to sit and practice these delicate skills, so nows a great time to give this ago! CLICK HERE TO LEARN HOW.

5. CATCH THE SUNRISE

Not only do you feel like the smuggest person on earth, but it’s been proven that watching the sunrise (or sunset) gives you a greater sense of gratitude for the earth. Some theories suggest, when

you are caught up in the natural beauty of the Earth (like a sunrise), you rid yourself of any distractions and feel higher levels of satisfaction and gratitude for what’s happening in front of you. Most importantly the morning light sets off a cascade of hormones and neurotransmitters which make you feel good. So get that alarm set!!!

6. SUPPORT LOCAL

If there’s ever been a time to enjoy a morning takeaway coffee, now’s the time to support our local businesses. We love grabbing a coffee for the go and then going for a little walk followed by a sit-down picnic.

7.MAKE YOUR OWN BOARD BAG

This is the perfect rainy day activity for any surfer! It’s also a great way to recycle any old material that’s just lying around. Check out our easy peasy method to create your own here.

8. BOARD REPAIR

This is the perfect time to dry out those boards and get repairing any dings.  TAKE A LOOK HERE at our quick and easy tutorial on how to do it.

9. TUNE OUT AND LISTEN IN

With so much rambling going on in the news, it’s a good time to tune out of the media and tune in to a podcast that really has your attention. Need some recommendations? Check out some of our faves HERE.

10. A LITTLE BIT OF TLC

Because honestly, you deserve it! So often we forget about our own self-care. If you can find 20 minutes for a hot bath, some gentle stretches or possibly even work on your mobility then it’s worth it. Alternatively, maybe your skin or hair needs some extra love? Try a leave-in conditioner or a face mask to leave you feeling shiny and new. Want to make your own face mask? Check out our DIY FACEMASKS TO HYDRATE + NOURISH YOUR SKIN here.

And there you have it. Your SOS guide to surviving lockdown!

We’ll see you on the other side.
