Newquay is a year-round favourite, but it truly comes to life in the summer!
Summer in Newquay offers the perfect blend of sun-soaked relaxation and thrilling activities. Whether you’re catching the perfect waves in the UK’s surf capital, exploring scenic coastal paths, enjoying live music by the sea, visiting local markets, or discovering the abundance of independent shops and cafes, Newquay has something special for everyone this time of year.
If you’re thinking about joining our Newquay Surf Coaching Weekend this summer, you won’t be disappointed. Get ready to catch your first waves or step up your surfing, with the bonus of experiencing a Newquay summertime!
Here are our top 5 reasons why to visit Newquay this summer:
1. Stay in style!
One of the joys of visiting Newquay in July is the variety of cool and unique accommodation options available to suit every taste and budget. Whether you’re looking for luxury with a view, a quirky yurt, a serene place to pop up your tent or a chic apartment to call your home away from home, Newquay has it all. Each accommodation option adds its own charm to your Newquay experience, making your stay as memorable as the adventures you’ll embark on during the day. Make the most of your micro adventure and wake up to the sound of the waves.

2. The Cafe Culture
One of our favourite things about Newquay is the coffee culture – there is an abundance of independent cafes with locally brewed coffee, fresh pastries, healthy breakfasts and decadent homemade treats. Plus, in the summer you can enjoy the outdoor seating! A few of our favourites to check out are:
- Box & Barber – Lucky us, it’s just a few doors down from the centre, offering everything from a full English breakfast, fluffy pancakes to Acai bowls.
- Basket – Located on Tower Road, possibly the best coffee in Newquay, but also known for its fresh homemade cakes, toasted sandwiches and it’s famous VLT (The vegan version of a BLT)
- Milk – Just opposite Sainsburys, great cakes, colourful lattes and perfect bagels for on-the-go!
- The Roasting Room – Located just up from Towan Beach, perfect for the coffee connoisseur!
- The Fern Pit – Newquay’s best kept secret, overlooking the river Gannel offering some of the most amazing views of Newquay. If you fancy classic hearty sandwiches with door-stopper bread – this is the place for you!
3. Beaches to suit the whole family
Part of Newquay’s allure is undeniably tied to its magnificent beaches. In our little town, we have seven of them, each with its own unique character and appeal. From the famous Fistral Beach to the family-friendly beaches in the bay, to hidden tidal pools – you’ll have to find those for yourself, but that’s all part of the fun!
Due to the shape of our coastline, it also means it’s incredibly rare that there won’t be fun surfable waves for everyone, with the high cliffs creating shelter when needed and long stretches of beach picking up swell when not. Whether you’re a sunbather, a swimmer, a surfer or an adventurer, Newquay’s beaches provide the perfect backdrop for your summer days.
4. It’s not just for surfers!
In your downtime from catching the waves, there are so many other things to enjoy:
- Take a stroll along the wrapping coastal trail from Newquay to Watergate to be greeted by an oceanfront dinner at The Watergate Bay Hotel.
- Start your day with a refreshing high tide dip in Newquay Harbour. Arguably, Cornwall has the bluest and clearest waters in the country!
- Enjoy a relaxing paddleboard or kayak down the Gannel Estuary. Never done this before? Don’t worry – get in touch and we can arrange this for you.
- Unwind after an action-packed day with a goblet of G&T at one of the best beach bars in Cornwall! Check out Fistral Beach Bar or OceanSide Hotel for the best sunset views.
- Book a full body massage and a cream tea at one of Newquays most famous 5 star hotels – The Headland Hotel (you may also remember this from the classic film The Witches). Or enjoy their Aqua Club by sipping some bubbles in their hot tubs over looking Fistral Beach.
There’s something for everyone!
5. The vibe!
There aren’t many places where you can get the right balance between laidback and vibrant, but Newquay has this vibe nailed. While we still get to reap the benefits of summer, July sees quieter lineups and lower accommodation prices before the school holidays and Boardmasters Festival. So seek July and September for the time to come!
So whatever draws you to Newquay, we can promise an unforgettable experience that will leave you longing to return again and again (as many of our guests do!). So pack your bags, embrace the summer spirit, and discover for yourself why Newquay is the best place to be!
