This is the perfect rainy-day activity for any surfer! It’s also a great way to recycle any old material that’s just lying around. Check out our easy-peasy method below to create your own:
What it can be used for:
- Sun protection for your surfboard whilst it chills in the back of your car
- Keeping sand and wax off your seats.
- Used as a wrap-around when changing
- A convenient changing matt to keep your feet clean.
- Something to lie whilst on the beach (or if it’s cold, lie in it instead!)
What you need:
- Measurements of your surfboard / Measuring tape
- Enough fabric to join together and make up the L x W (See image below) possibly an old pair of curtains/bed sheet/ towels
- Thread
- Scissors
- Sewing Machine / Basic sewing skills
STEP 1
Measure the dimensions of your board (LXW) + add at least an extra 3 inches per seam so it’s not to tight. Then use these measurements as an indication of how much fabric you’ll need to use. Once you’ve found your fabric, lay them on the floor in your desired design.
STEP 2.
Begin the patchwork stage where you cut each panel to its a specific size and lay it out in order ready to be sewn. Then one by one, sew each matching panel seam together (with good sides facing then unfold to hide seam) until you complete both sides of the bag.
STEP 3
Once the two full sides of the board bag are complete lay the surfboard on top and trace/cut the curve of the nose so the bag will sit nice and snug. Leave the bottom half of the bag at the widest length so that the board can easily slip in.
STEP 4
Once the two sides are cut to size, flip the good sides so they are facing each other. Then sew down each side seam to join them together.
STEP 5
Flip good sides out and there you have it! A new home for your board!
STEP 6
To clean up the bottom edge create a large hem and thread through a string or ideally an elastic band where you can attach a drawstring attachment and secure it in there.
And wallah! There you have it! Your multi-purpose board bag to suit every occasion!
