Portugal: Good Eating Guide

Food Surf Travel

Welcome to your essential eating guide to Lagos, Portugal – a sun-soaked town where the rich flavours of the Algarve shine through in every dish. Lagos is a paradise for food lovers, blending traditional Portuguese cuisine with fresh seafood straight from the Atlantic and a dash of international flair. Whether you’re a traveller seeking authentic local dishes, a foodie exploring hidden gems, or simply looking for a relaxed spot with a view, Lagos offers something for everyone. These are the hand-picked spots that we visit during our bi-annual trips.

Antonios

A dining experience that specialises in local seafood with an up-close view of the ocean. Antonio’s serves up traditional dishes including Octopus “a la gallega” style, mussels, shellfish soup, and paella. If seafood isn’t for you, opt for a tender fillet steak, or traditional Spanish omelette or create your own ‘tapas-style’ dining with lots of their delicious starters. So whether you’re indulging in a feast or simply sipping on Portuguese wine after a day of surfing or relaxing on Praia Porto De Mos, the panoramic scenery will elevate every bite.

Meu Limao

A charming, family-run gem tucked away in a quiet corner of the town’s historic centre, this intimate spot offers a cosy escape from the bustling streets where you can relax and watch the world go by. The menu features fresh, homemade tapas dishes with Mediterranean influences crafted from local ingredients and a personal touch. The intimate setting, combined with the authenticity of the food and the personal service, makes Meu Limão a special place to savour the true flavours of Lagos. Make sure to round off your meal with a traditional Portuguese port wine.

The Garden

Known for its relaxed, bohemian vibe, with tables set among greenery and twinkling lights, this walled garden eatery is a laid-back, open-air restaurant mixing Mediterranean and international dishes. The menu includes fresh salads, grilled meats, seafood, and vegetarian options, all prepared with locally sourced ingredients. With its friendly, casual service and a focus on fresh, flavorful food, The Garden is the perfect spot for a leisurely meal, whether you’re looking to enjoy lunch in the sun or dinner under the stars.

Gorilla

A modern eatery that stands out for its vibrant take on Asian-inspired street food, with bold flavours and creative dishes, offering everything from bao buns filled with tender pork to fresh, zingy Asian salads and rich ramen bowls. The menu blends traditional Asian ingredients with a modern twist, creating a fusion of tastes that cater to adventurous food lovers. Gorilla has quickly become a local favourite for those looking to experience something different in the heart of Lagos (and it’s one of our favourites too!)

Rooftop dinners with The Surf Experience

This one feels like an exclusive club. Nestled on the top of The Surf Experience rooftop is an eating experience like no other. With big pan meals made by their amazing chef, cheap flowing drinks and a laidback surf crowd, this is one dinner party you don’t want to miss – we can get you the invite 😉
